Finally! After 6 long years of drought, the Ateneo Blue Eagles recaptures the UAAP Men's Basketball Championship, sweeping the highly-competitive De La Salle Green Archers in Season 71's finals. This time, it was Chris Tiu who carried the team to victory with 16 points, the team's best. Due to foul troubles, Season MVP Rabeh Al-Hussaini was constrained in the bench. This lead to surprise performances from backup big men Jobe Nkemakolam and Mike Baldos, who got 8 points each. Jai Reyes provided the game turning point with a slashing layup a little more than 3 minutes to go in the game! Rookie Ryan Buenafe showed that the Ateneo dynasty is on the way, exuding poise and excellence in the series.
This year's championship series proved that in basketball, there is really truth in the saying "the best offense is defense." This was shown by the 2008 Best Defensive Player Severino "Nonoy" Baclao, as he took away the Finals MVP. He gathered a whopping 5.5 blocks, alongside 6.5 points and 8.5 rebounds! His defensive performance this season will be unforgettable, especially with his crucial rejection of Rico Maierhoffer's shot! And the best part is that he showed sportsmanship by publicly apologizing to Rico for his taunting. Truly a man of Ateneo character.
I gotta give it to the De La Salle Green Archers. They showed they had the heart of champions and despite apparently having less talent and height this year, they gave the Blue Eagles a good competition. They defended their championship well.
It is just sad to see unsportsmanlike gestures from the other team. After the game, nobody from La Salle went to the stage to get the first runner-up trophy and medals. Coach Franz Pumaren uttered sharp words to the bad officiating. Well, probably it's just one of those very Filipino traits of "walang natatalo, meron lang nadadaya."
I was not at all happy for Rico's ouster. That way, La Sallians would have another alibi for their loss. :)
For now, Ateneans would have to enjoy its one year of bragging rights. :) Better luck next year, La Salle.

"Color scheme" was the main reason why TV host/actress Kris Aquino made a repetitive joke that made Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach irritated towards her.
Filipina model turned tv-host/actress Phoemela Baranda also confirmed that there was no color scheme in the Randy Ortiz fashion show.
"Walang particular color scheme, walang particular style. I guess the guests are free to wear whatever they want to wear," Phoemela Baranda said.

The top 10 “hottest” Indonesian celebrities.
This list is organised according to how often pictures of famous actresses, models and celebrities have been viewed by the legions of visitors at Cari Artis.com. It attempts, totally unscientifically, to aggregate the number of views for each person’s images in the first 10 pages/120 images of the “Most Viewed” section.
Meet girls somewhat similar to these at Indonesian Cupid.
1. Revalina S Temat
The winner on balance, with dozens of “most viewed” entries in the first 120 of the most popular list (although her first entry only appears at 6th), is Miss Revalina S Temat, who this writer ignorantly admits to having never heard of. It appears more than a few local men like the nice, sweet looking Indonesian girls over the more sexy type.
2. Acha Septriasa
In second place comes somebody called Acha Septriasa, who first appears at 4th on the most viewed list but also has many other listings through the first 10 pages.
3. Agnes Monica
The inexplicably popular Agnes Monica has her first entry at 2nd, with +41,000 views, and has a few other listings further down.
4. Nia Ramadhani
Another sweet young thing, Nia Ramadhani has some considerable support.
5. Tiara Lestari
Old favourite Tiara Lestari has the number 1 most popular image but few others in the list.
6. Chelsea Olivia
Chelsea Olivia has quite a few listings down the nether regions of the top 120.
7. Bunga Lestari
Bunga Citra Lestari appears to be a singer and has a number of scandalous looking photos on the list.
8. Nadine Chandrawinata
Miss Indonesia 2006 Nadine Chandrawinata still exercises the fascination that nearly all beauty pageant winners in Indonesia do. She has the 3rd top listing at 38,280 views, and two or three more in the top 120.
9. Dian Sastro
A suprisingly weak performance from Dian Sastro, with only one listing in the top 120, at 5th, suggesting the Cari Artis hordes may not be such good judges after all.
10. Julia Perez
Julia Perez seems to score on the list mainly for the amount of her flesh on display.
Honourable mentions also go out to Ratu Felisha, Sarah Azhari, and Alexandra Joanna.

I had an interesting experience recently, in which I got to play the role of a "secret shopper". My wife's friend is the manager of a store (I won't say what store or what type of store in the interest of anonymity), and she asked us if we would go to the store and evaluate the employees working that particular shift.
She gave us a checklist that was several pages long, which consisted of all of the things that employees are expected to do regarding customers - greeting us at the door, wearing name tags, proper assistance, and things of that nature. Naturally I thought the experience would make for a good article.
As a business owner, particularly if you are in some form of retail business, you may not always be around. Your employees might be at the top of their game when you're there, but how can you be sure that this continues when you're not?
Getting someone to participate as a secret shopper could give you the insight you need for evaluating employee performance. There are programs out there that will connect businesses with secret shoppers, or you can just get someone you know to do it if they are willing.
Breach of Trust?
One downside to this approach is the possibility of losing the respect of your employees. If you do engage in a secret shopper situation, it is probably best that the employees never find out about it. They will not appreciate being spied on, and no longer trust you. If your employees can't trust you and/or respect you, they're not going to be happy working for you, and will quite possibly begin looking for another job.
You're Running a Business
Still, you're running a business. While the employees who know they are doing a good job would be peeved at the idea of a secret shopper, the ones who know they've been slacking may take the results as a needed wake-up call. The secret shopper project should be kept secret, but let the problem-employees know that you know what is going on. The amount of subtlety you apply is up to you.
If you do use a secret shopper and all of your employees pass the test with flying colors, reward them. Even if they don't know why you're rewarding them, you can show them that you appreciate the work they've been doing, and they will surely respect that.

Pinay celebrities Judy Ann Santos and Claudine Barretto "no issue"
0 comments Posted by Mavic at 6:42 AM
The issue start two months ago when Pinay celebrity actress Judy Ann Santos manager Alfie Lorenzo released statement that somebody's using Judy Ann name for a loud comeback of Claudine in the entertainment industry, before "Maligno start on its slot".
From Philippine Entertainment Portal, here's a brief statement from both celebrity actresses:
"Wala naman talagang intriga sa amin. Siguro hindi lang kami nabigyan din ng chance na maging close. We're friends. We are friends, oo, wala namang isyu sa amin. Siguro ang isyu lang ng mga tao sa amin is hindi kami nagkakasama sa trabaho, ‘yong ganun, kaya ang feeling nila magkaaway kaming dalawa. Pero hindi, matatanda na kami para dun," Judy Ann Santos said.
"May pinagsamahan kami ni Juday. We're not that close pero grabe ang respeto namin sa isa't isa. Kung may problema ang isa, nandoon kami para sa isa't isa kahit wala kami sa happy times. Basta sa tough times, nandito lang tayo sa isa't isa," Claudine Barretto said.
Watch Pinay celebrity singer Ramiele Malubay and her best friend Danny Noriega perform live in Aliw Theater, Pasay City this coming December 20-21.
American Idol contestants will perform together with Ogie Alcasid, and Pinoy Idol winner Gretchen Espina and finalist Robby Navarro.
I have no idea where to buy the tickets on the said concert, but the priced are 650, 1400, 2400, and 3000 pesos if you're in front stage.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found dead near Palo Verde, Calif. on Monday. He was 37 years old. His management team at the Driving Force Sports management agency confirmed his death to MMAWeekly.com.
Tanner had trekked into the desert on a journey to “cleanse” himself, according to Douglas Vincitorio of Tanner’s management team. “He went out to the desert to do a ‘cleansing’ as he called it. Kind of like ‘Survivorman.’” These short trips were not new to Tanner, said Vincitorio. It is something that he has done numerous times over the years.
“What we were told is that (Sheriff’s officials who found Tanner) believe his motorcycle had run out of gas, so he went to walk out in like 115- to 118-degree heat,” Vincitorio said. “He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, they just think that he succumbed to the heat.”
The U.S. Marines used a helicopter to search by air Monday morning, finally spotting a body two miles from the campground where Tanner’s belongings were found earlier, according to Lt. Moreno. While a coroner has yet to confirm the body is Tanner’s, John Hayner, the owner at Driving Force Sports, says people close to to the fighter visually identified his body at the scene.
On Aug. 10, Tanner wrote a blog on Spike TV’s website, proclaiming his desire to start an adventure in the desert east of his new home in Oceanside, Calif. An avid outdoorsman and wandering spirit, he wanted to escape civilization for a while.
“I’m not just going out into the desert, I’m going out into the desert to hunt for lost treasure,” he wrote. “I’m going on a pilgrimage of sorts, a journey to solitude, to do some thinking, and to pay my respects to the great mysteries.”
On Aug. 16, Tanner wrote about collecting supplies for his journey, and wrote about the dangers he might face.
“I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life,” he said. “I’ve been doing a great deal of research and study. I want to know all I can about where I’m going, and I want to make sure I have the best equipment.”
Of course, this led followers of his blog to fear for his safety, as they often did when Tanner reported his frequent by-the-seat-of-his-pants adventures. In a blog dated Aug. 27, Tanner tried to calm his audience.
“This isn’t a version of ‘Into the Wild,’” he wrote. “I’m not going out into the desert with a pair of shorts and a bowie knife, to try to live off the land. I’m going fully geared up, and I’m planning on having some fun.”
But he also affirmed that things could go wrong if his equipment wasn’t up to snuff.
“I do plan on going back pretty far, so I did mention in one of my posts that I wanted to make sure to have good quality gear,” he said. “Any failure of gear out in the desert could cause a problem.”
On Sept. 2, Tanner wrote his final blog entry, documenting a training session at a facility in Oceanside.
The Amarillo, Texas native was a high school wrestling stand out who won the state championships his junior and senior years despite only getting into the sport as a sophomore. He entered mixed martial arts in 1997 encouraged by friends.
Tanner rose to the top of the mixed martial arts world by winning the UFC middleweight title over David Terrell at UFC 51: “Super Saturday” Feb. 5, 2005. He lost the title later in the year to Rich Franklin. Tanner, who had a career MMA record of 32-8 last competed in the UFC on June 21 losing to Kendall Grove by split decision.
“He will obviously be sorely missed,” said Vincitorio. Adding, “I think that Evan would want to be remembered as a very complex man with many layers, not just a fighter.”
Tanner was surely a unique personality. He’s eclectic spirit and competitive nature will be sorely missed in the MMA community.

Anne Curtis (born Anne Ojales Curtis Smith on February 17, 1985 in Australia) is a Filipino-Australian commercial model and actress currently active in the Philippines. She is best known for her roles as Celine Magsaysay in Maging Sino Ka Man and as Imang/Fatima, the title role in Kampanerang Kuba. Both of these shows aired on the ABS-CBN network in the Philippines. Anne became the very first winner on MYX Awards 2005 for "Favorite Guest Appearance in a Music Video" for I Need You by Mark Bautista. In 2007, Anne became an MTV VJ for the new MTV Philippines which relaunched March 1, 2007. She is currently starring in a film under Star Cinema with Aga Muhlach entitled "When Love Begins".
Biography
Curtis was born and raised in Australia by a Filipina mother and an Australian father.
She lived in Australia until her lawyer father, James Curtis-Smith, moved to the Philippines when she was 12 years old. It is a move that Curtis is thankful for. "I am so happy that I’m here. If I were in Australia I’d have been in a boarding school! My dad was strict when it comes to education. He kept on discouraging me when I tried doing commercials, saying that they are just tricking me to get out of school. We lived in the country, so we’d be asleep around 8 or 9 p.m. It was really boring. But here, there are so many gimmicks. As of now, being young, I prefer living here (in the Philippines) but maybe when I settle down, I’ll move back to Australia."
